Humans have two eyes which are capturing light from slightly different positions and therefore produce slightly different images. The difference in observed images is unconsciously processed by the human brain and results in sensation of depth, or 3D sensation.

A system that is expected to invoke the feeling of 3D, consists of a stereoscopic signal source or 3D displays. A stereoscopic signal source sends left and right images to be displayed by the 3D display, and the 3D display shows left and right images to each eye of the observer without crosstalk.

There are different 3D display technologies: One-person or multi-person, one-view or multi-view, using glasses or auto-stereoscopic. However, all 3D display technologies need stereoscopic signal sources which provide the content to the 3D display. Based on the technology, 3D displays have various demands for stereoscopic signal format, such as checkerboard, interlaced, frame-sequential etc., so each 3D display technology needs specially tailored stereocopic signal sources. With iZ3D software, a PC becomes a universal 3D signal source that generates stereoscopic content for virtually any 3D display system, so that the user can play games, watch movies and pictures in 3D.
